The Council of State Governments Justice Center delivers this technical assistance. The Judges and Psychiatrists Leadership Initiative (JPLI) provides training and technical assistance to improve the judicial, community, and systemic responses to people with behavioral health needs involved in the justice system. Resources include web-based and in-person training, a newsletter to judges and psychiatrists, and other educational resources to increase judges’ and psychiatrists’ understanding of the latest research and best practices for people with mental illnesses involved in the justice system. An application is required to receive in-person judges training.

The Stepping Up Initiative

The Council of State Governments Justice Center supports the Stepping Up Initiative. The Stepping Up Initiative provides essential resources intended to assist counties with developing and implementing a systems-level, data-driven plan that can lead to measurable reductions in the number of people with mental illnesses in local jails. The initiative provides opportunities to connect with other Stepping Up Counties and resources.

Mental Health Technology Transfer Centers (MHTTC)

Stanford University School of Medicine’s Center for Behavioral Health Services and Implementation Research (CBHSIR) serves as the MHTTC’s network coordinating office. Mental Health Technology Transfer Centers (MHTTC) work with organizations and treatment practitioners to strengthen their capacity to deliver mental health services and provide effective evidence-based practices spanning prevention, treatment, and recovery support. The MHTTC Network includes a Network Coordinating Office, 10 Domestic Regional Centers, a Tribal Affairs Center, and a Hispanic and Latino Center. Training, webinars, reports, toolkits, and other downloadable resources are available online.

Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC)

The University of Oklahoma Health Science Center supports the Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC). SPRC provides a virtual learning lab to help state- and community-level partnerships build and improve more effective prevention efforts. SPRC presents a blueprint for developing and sustaining suicide prevention efforts. The Center also provides resources for suicide prevention in specific settings such as schools, college campuses, and American Indian/Alaska Native communities. Training, webinars, reports, toolkits, and other downloadable resources are available online.
